Yayin Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 15, 2026 · Contact: info@yayin.ai
This Privacy Policy explains what information Yayin uses to give you personalized wine and food pairings, what becomes public when you rate wines or scan labels, which service providers process information on our behalf, and how you can delete your account or contact us about your data.
Scope of this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Yayin (the "App") collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects information when you use our mobile application for iOS and Android, our website at yayin.ai, and related services (together, the "Services"). The Services are operated by Sealsync.ai ("Sealsync", "we", "us", "our"); the formal operating entity is SealSyncAI Inc., 6 Liberty Square #2634, Boston, MA 02109, United States.
Yayin is an AI wine assistant. You can:
- scan or describe a wine to get food pairings;
- scan or describe a dish to get wine recommendations;
- get suggestions from a restaurant menu or wine list;
- plan wines for an occasion;
- keep track of your cellar, tasting journal, and wishlist.
Recommendations are personalized using a taste profile built from your preferences and activity.
We are based in the United States, and our servers and storage are located in the United States. If you use Yayin from outside the United States, see "Users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland" below.
Age Requirement
Yayin is about alcoholic beverages. It is intended only for adults who are of legal drinking age where they live, and never for anyone under 21 in the United States. Do not use Yayin if you are under the legal drinking age.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the legal drinking age, including children under 13. If you believe such a person has provided us with personal information, contact us at info@yayin.ai and we will delete it.
Information We Collect
Account information
- Email sign-up: your first and last name, your email address, and a password. We store passwords only in hashed form.
- Sign in with Apple: an Apple identifier, your email address (which may be a private relay address), and the name you choose to share.
- Sign in with Google: a Google identifier, your name, your email address, and the profile photo on your Google account. When you first sign up, that photo becomes your Yayin profile photo.
- Profile photo: you can upload or remove one at any time.
- Settings and consent: your language preference, and whether you agreed to receive marketing emails.
Taste preferences and taste profile
We collect your answers to the taste quiz, such as preferred wine colors, sweetness, flavors, cuisines, and food style. We build a taste profile from these answers and from your activity: how you rate recommendations, which suggestions you ask to replace, and which wines you add to your cellar. The profile includes:
- your preferred wine style (body, acidity, sweetness, tannin, and oak);
- liked and disliked flavors, grapes, regions, cuisines, and ingredients;
- an AI-written summary.
We also show your progress through in-app milestones, such as your first pairing or a number of rated wines.
Your scans, requests, and results
- Photos you take or choose: wine labels and bottles, dishes, restaurant menus, and wine lists.
- Text you enter: wine and dish names, search queries, comments and corrections, answers to clarifying questions, and occasion descriptions (for example, "birthday dinner for 6 friends").
- What we keep: the results generated for you, your pairing history, and your ratings of recommendations, including any comments. That includes comments you add when you answer a rating reminder.
Please do not include personal details about yourself or others in free-text fields. Anything you type there is processed like any other input.
Cellar, tasting journal, and wishlist
We keep the wines in your cellar, with bottle counts and the dates you added them; your tasting entries, with the date, your personal rating, and notes; and the wines you save to your wishlist. Together these reflect what wine you own and drink. We treat them as private, and they are not shown to other users.
Ratings and reviews you share with the community
We keep the star ratings and written reviews you give wines. These are public, as described in "What Is Public in Yayin."
Account activity records
We keep records of key account events and when they happened:
- sign-ups and logins, including the sign-in method;
- changes to your cellar and wishlist;
- pairings you start, including the occasion you describe;
- ratings you submit, including any comment;
- taste quiz completion and profile photo changes;
- account deletion requests, including the reason you select and any text you add.
We use these records to operate Yayin, show your progress, decide when to send reminders and tips, and understand how Yayin is used.
Information collected automatically
- IP address: when the App communicates with our servers, they receive your IP address and basic request information. We use IP addresses only briefly, to protect sign-in and AI features from abuse, and we do not store them in your account.
- Operational logs: we keep these for a limited period to run and secure the Services.
- Push notifications: if you allow them, we store your device's push token and platform (iOS or Android).
The App does not access your device's location, contacts, or microphone, and it does not use an advertising identifier. It contains no advertising, analytics, attribution, session-replay, or crash-reporting tools. Our website, yayin.ai, does not set cookies or run tracking scripts.
Device permissions
The App asks for these permissions, and you can change them at any time in your device settings:
- Camera: so you can scan wine labels, dishes, menus, and wine lists, and take a profile photo.
- Photos: so you can choose existing photos to scan or use as your profile photo. On devices that support it, you can share only the photos you select.
- Recent photo preview: the in-app camera shows your most recent photo as a thumbnail on its gallery button. This thumbnail is displayed only on your device and is not uploaded unless you select that photo.
- Notifications: so we can send you push notifications.
Photos you choose from your library may contain embedded metadata, such as when and where they were taken, depending on your device settings. We do not use photo metadata to determine your location. You can turn off location tagging in your camera settings.
Information stored on your device
Your sign-in tokens are kept in your device's secure storage (Keychain on iOS, Keystore on Android) and are removed when you log out.
To make the App start faster, it also keeps a copy of recently loaded data for up to 24 hours, such as your profile, history, and cellar, along with your display preferences.
Deleting the App removes this data from your device.
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide the Services: recognize wines and dishes; generate pairings, restaurant suggestions, and occasion plans; and maintain your history, cellar, tasting journal, and wishlist.
- Personalize your experience: build and update your taste profile, explain why a wine or dish fits you, and power features such as taste-match scores, cellar insights, wine tips, and wines picked for you from your cellar.
- Run your account: sign you in, help you regain access if you forget your password, and process account deletion requests.
- Communicate with you: send push notifications and service emails, and send marketing emails only if you opted in.
- Operate community features: show wine ratings and reviews, and show wine label photos to users viewing the same wine.
- Keep Yayin safe and working: prevent abuse, including attempts to misuse our AI features; troubleshoot bugs; respond to support requests; and comply with legal obligations.
- Improve Yayin: develop new features and improve the accuracy of our wine data, recognition, and recommendations, as described in "Improving Yayin and Training AI."
We do not sell personal information that identifies you. We do not use your information for targeted advertising, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
AI Processing of Your Requests
Yayin uses AI to:
- read wine labels, menus, and wine lists, and identify dishes;
- ask clarifying questions;
- generate pairings, occasion plans, and their explanations;
- write your taste-profile summary, wine tips, and the text of rating reminders;
- enrich wine profiles and create illustrative dish images;
- translate content into your language.
Our current AI providers are Google (Gemini), Groq, and OpenAI. They receive the following:
- Photos you upload, for recognition. Photos are sent on their own, without your name, email address, or taste profile.
- For personalized results: the text you enter (names, queries, comments, answers to clarifying questions, and occasion descriptions), a summary of your taste preferences, and, where relevant, the wines in your cellar.
- For translation into your language: generated results, notification text, and the occasion descriptions you write.
- For illustrative dish images: the dish name only. Your photos are never used to generate images.
Requests to AI providers never include your name, email address, or any account identifier, so the information they receive is not linked to your Yayin account. AI providers process this information to provide results to us, under their own terms. We may also use tools to monitor and debug AI processing, and those tools receive the same information.
To complete wine and dish details, we may run web searches, currently through Tavily. These searches use wine or dish details such as the producer, wine name, vintage, or dish name. They never include your account or profile information or the comments you write.
AI output can be inaccurate, so always check the actual label, menu, and ingredients, and drink responsibly.
Improving Yayin and Training AI
To make Yayin more accurate over time, we may use wine and food content to develop, train, evaluate, and improve the AI and machine-learning models and systems that power Yayin. This content includes:
- wine label photos, menus, and wine lists;
- recognized wine and dish details;
- the results generated from them;
- requests that our AI could not process correctly.
We may also use information about how Yayin is used, including taste preferences and ratings, for these purposes. We do so only after it has been de-identified or aggregated so that it no longer identifies you. We do not use your name, email address, or account details to train AI models.
Aggregated and De-identified Information
We may create aggregated or de-identified information from the data we hold, such as:
- trends in which wines are scanned;
- which pairings people like;
- how common certain taste preferences are across our community.
This information does not reasonably identify you.
We may use this information for any lawful purpose, including research, publishing insights, and developing new products and services. We may share it with business partners such as wineries, importers, distributors, retailers, restaurants, and research organizations, including under commercial agreements.
We keep this information in de-identified form, do not attempt to re-identify it, and require recipients not to attempt to re-identify it.
What Is Public in Yayin
Wine ratings and reviews are public. Anyone who views a wine can see your star rating, your review text, and the date, together with your name and profile photo. The App displays your name as your first name and last initial.
- Your rating also counts toward the wine's average rating and rating totals.
- You can delete your written review at any time. Your star rating may continue to count toward the wine's overall rating.
- If you signed up with Google, your Google profile photo is your Yayin profile photo until you change or remove it in Edit profile.
Wine label photos. Photos of wine labels or bottles from wine scans and cellar scans may be shown to other users who view the same wine. Our team may also choose one as that wine's main image. Only photograph the bottle, and avoid capturing people or personal details.
Not shared with other users. Other users cannot see your taste profile, quiz answers, pairing history, cellar, tasting journal, wishlist, or notifications.
Service Providers We Share Data With
We share personal information only with the service providers that help us operate Yayin, and only as needed for them to perform their function. Aggregated or de-identified information that does not identify you may be shared as described in "Aggregated and De-identified Information."
- Apple and Google (sign-in), when you choose to sign in with them. They verify your identity and share your name, email address, and, for Google, your profile photo with us.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service, which receive your device's push token and the content of the notifications we send. To deliver notifications, Firebase also generates an installation identifier for the App on your device.
- Google Cloud, which hosts our servers, databases, logs, and the photos you upload in the United States.
- AI providers (Google Gemini, Groq, and OpenAI), web search (Tavily), and any tools we use to monitor and debug AI processing. These receive the information described in "AI Processing of Your Requests."
- Mailgun, which sends our emails from the United States.
We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or Yayin. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy.
Notifications and Emails
Push notifications include:
- rating reminders about pairings you made recently, which mention the wine or dish;
- weekly wine tips, which may be personalized using your taste profile;
- reminders if you haven't used Yayin for a while;
- service announcements.
Depending on your device settings, notification text may appear on your lock screen. Notifications are also kept in the App's inbox until you delete them. You can turn push notifications off at any time in your device settings, and logging out of the App unregisters your device.
Service emails are the emails needed to operate your account, such as password recovery. If you use password recovery, we email you a new password; we recommend changing it after you sign in.
Marketing emails are sent only if you opted in when you signed up with email. This option is off by default. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting info@yayin.ai, and every marketing email will include an unsubscribe link.
Data Retention
While your account is active, we keep your account information, content, and activity records.
- You can delete individual items at any time: pairing sessions from History, tasting entries, cellar and wishlist entries, notifications, your profile photo, and your reviews.
- You can retake the taste quiz to reset your quiz answers.
- Notifications stay in your inbox until you delete them.
- Temporary data used while a pairing is being processed is normally deleted within about a day.
When your account deletion is completed, we delete:
- your profile, profile photo, and sign-in links;
- your taste profile and quiz answers;
- your pairing history;
- your cellar, tasting journal, and wishlist;
- your ratings and reviews;
- your notifications, device tokens, and activity records.
Some information may remain after deletion:
- Security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or dispute resolution: we may keep limited information where needed for these purposes. For example, records of requests flagged as attempts to misuse our AI features may be kept without being linked to your account.
- Backups: residual copies may remain for a limited time before they are overwritten.
- Shared catalog content: wine and dish records, translations, and wine label photos that have become part of a shared wine record may remain without being linked to you.
- De-identified or aggregated information: this, and AI models already trained or improved with it, are not affected by account deletion, because that information no longer identifies you.
Deleting Your Account
You can delete your account in the App under Profile → User settings → Delete your account, or by emailing info@yayin.ai.
After you confirm, you have 30 days to change your mind. During this time your account stays active, and you can cancel the request in the App from the same place. Once the 30 days have passed, we delete your account and the information listed in "Data Retention."
Logging out or uninstalling the App does not delete your account.
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- receive a copy of it in a portable format;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- withdraw consent you have given.
Many choices are available directly in the App:
- edit your name and profile photo;
- change your language;
- retake the taste quiz;
- delete individual items;
- delete your account.
To exercise any other right, contact us at info@yayin.ai. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. If we decline your request, you may appeal by replying to our response.
We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under U.S. state privacy laws.
Users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland
If you use Yayin from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, SealSyncAI Inc. is the controller of your personal information. We process it on the following legal bases:
- Contract: to provide the Services you request, including personalization based on your taste profile.
- Legitimate interests: to keep the Services secure, prevent abuse, improve Yayin, and create de-identified and aggregated information.
- Consent: for marketing emails and push notifications. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation: to comply with applicable law.
Your information is processed in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information from unauthorized access, misuse, loss, or disclosure. These include:
- storing passwords only in hashed form;
- keeping sign-in tokens in your device's secure storage;
- limiting access to personal information within our team to people who need it to operate, support, and improve Yayin.
No system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the App or by email before they take effect. The effective date at the top shows when this policy was last updated.
